Dead Meat

This is the final meat shot that i had to reproduce in the studio at college. The teacher did not like the back light but preferred the morning light to come in from the side as if it were gleaming in from a window. I used a honeycomb and barndoors to cut off the light and shined the light through a patterned cut out to place pools of light over the still life piece. I added a lot more herbs to fill it in a lot more, and twisted the ribs to add more dimension. I also used a gold reflector to reflect gold light back onto the meat to add a bit more warmth. I like this shot i still think the test shoot was lovely, i still like the shot a bit desaturated. Stak (my teacher) suggested i don't desaturate it as meat should be vibrant and red as it is. But i like the look of the shot desaturated as it turns a shot from becoming a food shot to a classical still life which is what i'm required to do for this shoot, but i shall show you the shot the teacher prefers and the shot i prefer.

Mocking it Up

So today i decided to do a mock up for my still life assessment after class today. I went and bought everything that i needed to do the shoot and went straight home to start it. I don't think Stak will like this shot at all, he wasn't too keen on my idea, it sucks because Greg would absolutely love my idea and probably help me in ways Stak can't. Anyways, this shot is based on a painting by Jacopo de Barbari titled "Partridge and Iron gloves" in 1504. I think i did a fairly good job, i wanted the background behind the fence pailings to establish morning light pouring through the wood and keep the lighting on the inside fairly dark showing available natural light coming in from perhaps another window inside the house. All in all i think i did fairly well in the end, only about 5-10 minutes of photoshop time just to vignette the edges, desaturate the colours slightly, add a curves and some grain.

Olympus OM10

Hi guys, haven't blogged in a bit, i just started college today which was kinda exciting but at the same time exhausting. I think too much words, sounds and theory does my head in. It's nice to know that looking at things doesn't make me tired, which is in a way the reason why i love photography. I simply love to look.

Anyways back on topic, so a while back i bought an olympus OM10 at Vintage Delight on King st in Newtown and it was awesome purchasing a nice durable film camera at a cheap price. This is my second film processed but foto reisel fucked up my first roll by mixing up my film with another Adrian. So this is truly my first roll i have physically been able to see. Some blurred images, some out of focus, some overexposed and some beautifully captured. No particular subject matter, just what caught my eye. none of the image are photoshopped, just cropped in to remove the film border so the colour that the photo is in is how it processed.

enjoy!
